Before you book

Where it fits in your plan.

What does it feel like when the drive is gone?

Work that used to pull you forward now takes effort just to start. After long stress you can end up going through the motions, tired and flat.

Where does the Dopamine Chair fit?

It is one of the services in the Reset phase of care, with the Reboot Protocol™ and BrainTap. Your evaluation decides whether it belongs in your plan.

How it works

What is Dopamine Chair Therapy?

Dopamine Chair Therapy is a session in the Dopamine Chair (a NeuroNova device). The chair combines red and near-infrared light, vibroacoustic sound, brainwave entrainment and guided neuro-meditation. The session is aimed at the brain's motivation and reward pathways, and at Reboot Vitality it is part of the Reset phase of care.

  1. The light

Red and near-infrared light is part of every session in the chair.

  2. The sound

Vibroacoustic sound adds low-frequency vibration, with audio used for brainwave entrainment.

  3. The guidance

A guided neuro-meditation program runs through the session.

Who it may suit

  • Adults who feel flat or unmotivated after a long stretch of stress
  • Reset-phase patients looking for a quiet, guided session
  • Anyone who would rather avoid needles and medication

Who it is not for

  • Anyone in crisis today: call 911, or call or text 988
  • Anyone seeking talk therapy or psychiatric care, which is not offered here
  • Anyone expecting a set change in mood or motivation, since no result is promised

For how researchers define vibroacoustic therapy, see a 2022 BMJ Open scoping review of vibroacoustic therapy.

If the chair does not suit you, your evaluation sets another starting point.

Why here

What sets it apart.

Several methods, one session

Light, vibroacoustic sound, entrainment audio and guided meditation, together in one chair session.

No needles or medication

Nothing is injected or prescribed during a session in the chair.

Fits around the reset

Your evaluation decides how the chair fits with the Reboot Protocol™ and BrainTap.

Candidacy

Is it right for you?

It may suit you if

  • You feel flat, unmotivated or stuck after long stress
  • You are in the Reset phase and want a guided session
  • You prefer care with no needles or medication

It may not be right if

  • Seizures or epilepsy, migraines set off by light or sound, or sensitivity to vibration are part of your history: tell Dr. Meighen first
  • You have a pacemaker or other implant, or you are pregnant: the team asks before a first session
  • You expect a set change in mood or motivation
  • You want sessions in place of your care for depression

Your evaluation with Dr. Meighen decides whether the Dopamine Chair belongs in your plan.

On the mixed evidence for entrainment, read a 2023 PLOS ONE review of brainwave entrainment by sound.

What happens in a Dopamine Chair session?

The Dopamine Chair combines red and near-infrared light, vibroacoustic sound, brainwave entrainment and guided neuro-meditation in one session, planned after your evaluation.

What is vibroacoustic sound?

Low-frequency sound delivered as vibration. Researchers describe vibroacoustic therapy as low-frequency sound vibration combined with music listening. In the Dopamine Chair it is one of four parts of each session.

Does the Dopamine Chair raise dopamine?

No session is promised to change dopamine levels or mood. The chair is aimed at the brain's motivation and reward pathways, and research on brainwave entrainment, one of its parts, is mixed. Individual experiences vary.

How does the chair compare with BrainTap?

The chair combines light, vibroacoustic sound, entrainment and guided neuro-meditation in one chair session. BrainTap is a headset session of guided audio, light and binaural beats.

Is it used with the Reboot Protocol™?

It can be. Your evaluation with Dr. Meighen decides which Reset services your plan includes.

How often are sessions scheduled?

Your plan sets the number and spacing of sessions after your evaluation, and it can change as your care moves forward.

How do I get started?

Book a consultation and evaluation with Dr. Meighen. If the chair fits, a new patient can get started the same week.

Can insurance pay for Dopamine Chair sessions?

Ask the team about insurance, including TRICARE, before you book.
